John Bead Catalog
Editorial design for a bead and crafting business.
John Bead is a wholesale bead and handicraft business that mostly sells to customers. They provide their clients with a yearly catalogue with the most recent items available as of that calendar year. As the designer, it was my obligation to modernize the appearance and functionality of the 2022 catalogue to make it simpler to navigate, more enjoyable to peruse, and clearly present all of its items.

With such a huge product catalogue, comprising a variety of colours and designs, there is a worry about keeping uniformity in layouts without sacrificing usefulness. Previous catalogues had issues with accessibility, such as tiny product photographs, unclear item numbers, and a lack of classification.
-
My objective was to maintain the company's branding while applying future-proof solutions to the issues this project encountered.

Creating templates for a variety of products ensured that the layouts maintained a clean grid from one section to the next. Defining character styles guaranteed that not only was the appearance uniform throughout, but that if any team members had aesthetic changes, it would be simple to update.
A colour-coded categorical system should entice viewers to rely on the table of contents when lost.
Hierarchy is always maintained in the same order, regardless of how many product styles fall within a section.
It was important to bring familiarity to each section, allowing viewers to browse more efficiently.
Individual products now display a large, clear title with essential details only. Also, photos are enlarged allowing visual shoppers to purchase with confidence.
